Being in love with You

In his book, "Blue Like Jazz", Donald Miller says "sometimes you have to watch somebody love something before you can love it yourself. It is as if they are showing you the way." This is definitely true for myself. There are some people that just have this gloriously radiant presence about them that causes me to yearn to love my Lord the way they do. Sometimes it's in the way they pray, sometimes it's in the way they speak as if every word carries significant weight, sometimes it's in the way they worship and sometimes it's even in the way they care for me. Maybe it's something about their words, or about their sincerity, or maybe it's about the way they struggle with God. Whatever it is, it touches something deep inside me. On days when my heart is hard I think they are being fake, but on days when my heart is real I am almost always moved to tears. I long to have that same kind of passion, that same incredible depth of desire for the Lord and all that comes from His heart. I think He teaches me through watching these people that are so radiantly in love with Him. I think it is His way of reminding me of the sheer delight that comes from being in His presence and knowing His sovereignty. So often I go through my life content with how things are, but when I see one of these people, I am reminded that there is so much more and I am daily invited to partake. How do I miss that invitation? Has my soul really become so enamored with itself that I have blocked out the still small whisper of love? It's possible. Especially when I am not disciplining myself to set aside time to just be with the Lord and answer His invitation of an abundant life. Yes, life can be fine all by itself, but I am thankful for the people the Lord puts into my life to remind me to quit settling for a half-hearted love.
